Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift – Will it still be the Market Leader??

Maruti Suzuki Baleno was launched way back in 2015 and has been one of top 10 selling cars with more than 10,000 Balenos selling every month. With 3 years passed, Maruti is in the works to give us the Facelifted Baleno, expectedly in June 2019. The Facelifted version is expected to get a few cosmetic changes only and no changes to mechanicals.

Exterior:

The Baleno is one of the beautiful offerings from Maruti Suzuki in recent times. The Dimensions of the Baleno stands at 3995mm in Length, 1745mm in Width, 1500mm in Height. At the front, you will find that the V-shaped grille looks nice. The Swift Like HeadLamps with Bi-Xenon Projectors and DRLs adds to the character of Baleno. The Chrome Strip from the Grille extends beautifully inside the Headlamps.

The Baleno looks all Curvy and pretty from any angle. The Top-Spec trim is offered with 16-Inch Alloy Wheels while the other variants get 15-Inch Wheels. It has a wheelbase of 2,520 mm while the ground clearance is 170 mm. The boot capacity stands at 330-liters.

With the Facelifted version, we expect Maruti Suzuki to make a few changes to the Exteriors like New and Updated Headlamp, New Bumper design, New Alloy Wheels, Dual Tone Exteriors, Addition of few chrome elements like we all witnessed with the New Facelifted Ciaz.

Interior:

The Cabin of Baleno is a nice place to be in. Though not as Premium as the I20, everything about the Cabin is User-Friendly and has a sporty feel to it.

At the Front, you will find a nice and plain dash with a 7-Inch Touch Screen Infotainment System which is very responsive and easy to use with support for Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Baleno scores high on practicality with lots of cubby holes, door pocket bins, ample head room, and leg room. The Front and Rear Seats are comfortable and a cabin is silent for most of the time.

With the Facelift, it is expected that Maruti would offer New Seats with Leather Upholstery at least in the Top Spec Variants, changes to Seat Design Fabrics is also a possibility.

Engine and Performance:

The Baleno is currently offered with 2 Engine Options. The First one and the most selling engine of Baleno is the 1.2 Litre Petrol motor putting out 83PS of Power with 115Nm of Torque. The Second one is the Fiat’s 1.3 Diesel Engine (DDiS) putting out 75PS of Power with 190Nm of Torque. Both the engines are tried and tested and have been doing heavy duty on almost all of the Maruti Suzuki Cars. Both the Engines comes with 5-Speed Manual Transmission and the CVT transmission specific to the Petrol Baleno Only.

The ARAI Fuel Efficiency of Petrol is 21.4 Kmpl. Similarly, its Diesel Counterpart offers around 27.39 Kmpl mileage. Both offers Best-In-Class Mileage.

Both the Engines offers Punchy Performance and screams to their Red Line with ease. With the Baleno’s kerb weight being less than a Ton, the Performance feels great. The Handling is Neutral but expected to get better with the new version. The Baleno even with lower kerb weight drives like a mature car from a segment above.

Both the Engines will make it to The Facelifted Version since Maruti Plans to Launch BS-VI Compliant Engines in the year 2020.

Braking and Safety:

With the Disc Brakes at the Front and the Drum Brakes at the rear, Braking is good. However, sudden braking makes the car lose its composure. But Still, it is better than the competition.

Dual Airbags, ABS and EBD are as standard across all the variants. Also, offered Rear Parking Sensors and Camera. With the Facelift, the Number of Airbags in the Top Spec Variant is expected to increase.

Features:

Projector Headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lights, Electrically Adjustable Rear-View Mirrors, Smart play Touchscreen Infotainment System, Automatic Climate Control, Automatic Headlamps, Charging Sockets, Day and Night Rear View Mirror, Steering Mounted Audio Controls, Adjustable Steering Wheel, Height Adjustable Driver’s Seat

Verdict:

The Baleno has been a successful car for Maruti Suzuki since its launch. The sales have been consistently more than 10,000 cars a month. With the Facelift, it is expected to maintain its position as the Market Leader and do better in terms of sales due to better features, comfort and refreshed look.
