2019 Jeep Compass TrailHawk Launch, Price and Review
Jeep just opened booking for the Trailhawk version of their already successful Compass for a refundable amount of Rs. 50,00 at their FCA showrooms located around India in 70 cities. 2019 Compass TrailHawk is expected to be launch by July, 2019. First, let us know what a “Trailhawk” version is. Trailhawk is a trim level of Jeep’s models which are the best in terms of off-road capability. This version usually gets the best engine, transmission, suspension and a trail-rated 4×4 badge. So, here are the 5 things you need to know about the Jeep Compass Trailhawk.
2019 Jeep Compass TrailHawk Trail Rated 4×4 Badge
The Jeep tests its SUV on 5 parameters which are traction, water-fording, manoeuvrability, articulation and ground clearance. The Compass has proven itself on these parameters and earned the “Trail Rated 4×4 Badge” and now it sits proudly on the right front fender of the SUV.
Jeep has made some changes to the Compass so that it can earn this badge.
The front and rear bumpers of the SUV has been revised for a more aggressive departure angle of 31.6° degrees, breakover angle of 21.2° and approach angle of 26.5°. The ground clearance of the Trailhawk has been increased from 178mm to 205mm for clearing big rocks while offroading. Jeep has also increased the water wading depth to 480mm for the people who really like to get their SUVs dirty. This has also assisted in increasing the height of the intake snorkel by 120mm as compared to the standard Compass. Even the underbody is now protected with high strength steel and skid plates.
2019 Jeep Compass TrailHawk Exterior
The exterior of the Trailhawk has changed a bit so that it is easier to recognize from the standard Compass. All the chrome bits on the SUV like on the 7 slat grille and badges are now matte black instead of chrome. The bumpers are also redesigned. In the centre of the hood, there is a black decal which cuts down glare while driving and it also enhances the sporty look.
2019 Jeep Compass TrailHawk Engine & transmission
The diesel engine is the same that is doing the duty on the standard Compass. The engine produces a peak power of 170bhp @3750rpm and a max torque output of 350Nm @1750-2500rpm. However, the engine is BS VI compliant but still runs on BS IV fuel with the help of AdBlue additive. The AdBlue additive helps to reduce emissions. The transmission is now a 9-speed ZF unit which is a smooth shifting gearbox.
2019 Jeep Compass TrailHawk Interiors
The interiors are also revised slightly and now it gets red accents in the cabin, trailhawk badging and red stitching on the seats. The panoramic sunroof is black in colour and also the SUV gets the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The MID has also been updated to show more details for offroading like the temperature of coolant, oil and transmission. It also shows the level of AdBlue additive. Compass Trailhawk is also offered with Cruise control. However, there are some missing features like the electric adjustment for seats, automatic headlamps and wipers which I think are important for offroading.
Jeep is offering the Trailhawk with a 9-speed gearbox which comes with a low ratio. The first gear is a super low ratio and is mostly used in off-roading only. This gear helps in climbing the steep slopes with less stress on the engine. There is also a 4WD lock mode which locks the gearbox in 1st gear and limits the maximum speed at 10kmph. Jeep has also introduced the “Rock” mode. Basically what this does is transfers more power to the rear wheels so that the front wheels can lift over the rocks. There is also a hill descent control and hill climb assist. The SUV comes with 17-inch alloy wheels instead of the 18-inch alloy wheels. Jeep has done this in favor of better off road drivability. Due to this the sidewall of the tires also bugles out slightly which helps in protecting the alloy wheels from scraping on the rocks while off-roading.
